Des Crossley graduated from the Faculty of Forestry, University of Toronto in 1935, and received his M.Sc. from the University of Minnesota in 1940. He served as a tree planting supervisor in Saskatchewan, 1935-1940; in the Royal Canadian Air Force, 1940-1945; as a Forest research officer, 1945-1955; as chief forester for North Western Pulp and Power, Ltd., 1955-1975.
